CHILD CAR SEAT
DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM
(The CareLink Foundation)
WHAT IS THE CHILD CAR SEAT DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM?
Child Safety seats are legally required in DuPage County for all young
children traveling in a car or bus, but
many families cannot afford them. Loaves & Fishes sponsors a free
child safety class and car seat distribution
for clients of the pantry. Car seats will be given away following a one-hour
class on car seat safety. Classes will be
given in both English and Spanish. Clients will be issued a car
seat that is appropriate for the age and weight of
the child. All car seats are new (not previously used).
Clients must attend the Car Seat Safety class in order to receive a free car
seat, and they must qualify for the
program. The DuPage County Health Department has several different car seat
distributions other than Loaves & Fishes. When the client calls the number
to register, they will be able to choose a date and location that is best
for them.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR SERVICES?
In order to qualify, residents must live in DuPage County, and be enrolled
in All Kids (state healthcare for all
children), Family Care, Access DuPage, or show a specific need. Children
should be using a car seat until they
are big enough to fit in a seat belt properly. (A seat belt should lie
across the upper thighs and be snug across
the shoulder and chest. It should not rest on the stomach area or across the
neck.)
WHEN IS IT AVAILABLE?
Please check the Loaves & Fishes Program Calendar for the date of the next
Car Seat Giveaway at the pantry.
Clients must register in advance, and class size is limited.
