Food is one of the most powerful influences on our health. A nutritious diet supports child development, reduces the risk of chronic disease, and promotes overall well-being. But for many families, especially those facing financial hardship, healthy food can be the hardest to access.

At Loaves & Fishes, we believe that nourishing people and caring for the planet go hand-in-hand. The 33rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Letter Carriers’ Food Drive Is Saturday, May 10  

Egg prices have surged nearly 60% in the past year, according to The New York Times, turning an everyday staple into a luxury. Overall food prices rose by almost 24% between 2020 and 2024, making essentials like milk, eggs, and fresh produce harder to afford. With rising food costs, rent, gas prices, and other essential expenses stretching household budgets, more people are turning to Loaves & Fishes for help—a number that will likely continue to grow.

Mike Havala, CEO & President of Loaves & Fishes, attributes the rising demand to the increasing cost of living. The four counties they serve are home to 2.3 million people, with one in five individuals living in low-income or poverty conditions.
