Stamp Out Hunger 2017

Stamp Out Hunger Yields 97,016 lbs of Food

Largest Food Drive in L&F History

The power of community was on display during the 25th Annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive on May 13th. Eighty-one individuals worked a total of 349 hours in one day to gather non-perishable donations placed near residential mailboxes. Letter carriers donated extra shift hours, and volunteers staffed seven collection locations throughout the city.  Last year, we exceeded 800 volunteer service hours in our warehouse to sort the product over the ensuing weeks. Vice President of Operations Cary Gilkey commented that residents continued to drop off donations after the event. “Thank you to the USPS letter carriers and the Naperville community,” Cary said, “and a warm thanks to the individuals, business and civic groups who volunteer their time to help us process these donations.”

This is what 97,000 pounds of food looks like! Volunteer Tom Klann is a key organizer of the sorting effort.
